Things Needed For Good Corn Snake Husbandry !!!!!

  • Enclosure (10gallon/20gallon)
  • Locking screen top (or tank clips will work)
  • Substrate (newspaper or Aspen)
  • Reptile heating pad (recommended to be a controllable heating pad )
  • Heat lamp (60 to 65 watts)
  • Lighting timer (not needed but recommended)
  • Thermometer ( any pet store will carry a basic one/and or digital with infared )
  • Water bowl
  • Feeder mice and Pinkies
  • Hiding area
  • Feeding Container
  •

    Step1
Purchase an appropriately sized Tank for an adult size corn snake(10gallon/20gallon). you will also need to purchase a feeding container (Steralite) is what we use. You will need to Cover the bottom of the cage with any of a variety of substrates like newspaper, or Aspen (Preferred) .
    Step3
Place a  heating pad (preferred not to be anything that you can't controll the heat with) underneath one side of the cage to maintain a heat of 80 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit and the rest of the tank can be left as is (so that you have a hot and cold section to your tank).
    Step4
Use a water bowl(or a steralite container/glad container will do) that is large enough for the snake to fully submerge its body. Keep it filled at all times with clean non-chlorinated water.
    Step5
Clean and disinfect the cage and bowls on a weekly basis to prevent fungal and bacterial buildups. Remove the snake before using any cleaners in the tank and rinse the cleaners away thoroughly.
    Step6
Feed your snake once every week with an appropriately sized feeder mouse. If you buy frozen mice, they must be thawed and warmed in hot water before feeding, dry them off before feeding, making sure that the pinkie/mouse is fully dry. Place snake in the feeding Container to reduce the risk of the snake being aggressive, feed the F/T mouse when the snake is calm.
    Step7
Provide a hiding area for your snake. A hollow rock or log makes a great hiding area.

    Tips And Warnings

    • Allow your snake a few days in its new surroundings before trying to handle it. This will help it calm down so that it is less likely to strike you.

  • Place the heat lamp on a timer to simulate day and night lighting. You can also add night bulbs for nighttime viewing since the corn snake is nocturnal.
  • Opulent Reptiles does not recommended  live mice and rats( this will damage the snakes skin/eyes) it may actually kill your snake if you leave it in the tank alone.
  • Do not use cedar shavings as they are toxic to corn snakes.
  • Avoid feeding your snake in its normal enclosure. Have a separate place, like a cardboard box, where the snake is actually fed. If not, your snake may begin to strike at your hand any time it is in the cage because the snake will see it as food
